Building the NORQAIN Wild ONE Configurator: A World First

When NORQAIN approached us with the vision for the Wild ONE of 1, the brief was simple but unprecedented: let customers design their own luxury mechanical watch from scratch, with every combination rendered in photorealistic 3D. Nothing like this had ever been attempted in the Swiss watch industry.

The technical challenge was immense. With 11 customization steps — from movement selection to case materials, dial designs, and strap colors — the total number of unique configurations exceeded 3.5 million. Each combination needed to render accurately, with correct reflections on 18-carat gold, proper translucency on sapphire crystals, and physically accurate shadows.

We worked directly with NORQAIN's design team in Nidau, Switzerland, scanning and photographing every component to ensure digital accuracy matched the physical watches. The laser-cut Mandala patterns on the dials alone required weeks of shader development to render correctly at any angle.

The configurator launched at Watches & Wonders Geneva to immediate acclaim. Jean-Claude Biver, the legendary figure behind Hublot and TAG Heuer and now NORQAIN board advisor, called it 'the future of the Swiss watch industry.' Within the first month, thousands of unique configurations were created.

The integration with Shopify's checkout was another first — allowing customers to go from 3D customization to purchase in a single flow. The result is a seamless bridge between traditional Swiss craftsmanship and modern digital engagement, proving that luxury and technology aren't opposing forces.
